Early Intervention
Conventional methods of orthodontics would generally wait until all adult teeth are present before commencing treatment. Dr Pulvirenti believes in assessing children as young as 6 years old if there are concerns about crowding or less than ideal facial balance. At this stage while the jaw is still growing and developing, intervention in the form of removable plates and oral posture exercises can help grow the jaw into the correct position, creating room for all the teeth and a pleasing facial profile.
Braces
These are metal or plastic devices glued onto the front of the teeth and fitted with a series of wires which are in the ideal shape for your teeth. When the wires are inserted into the braces they create tension on the teeth as they spring back into its original shape, pulling the teeth with them into a beautiful curve.
Invisalign®
Using 3D computer technology, your Invisalign® aligners are custom made to fit over your teeth virtually undetected. Every two weeks the aligners are replaced with the next in the course of your treatment, moving your teeth little by little, week by week until they have straightened to your prescribed position.
Somnomed
Narrowing or total closure of the airway during sleep can cause Obstructive Sleep Apnea and snoring. Custom fit appliances adjusted to your requirements can help position the jaw during sleep so that the airway stays open and healthy night’s sleep is achieved.
TMJ (Temporo-Mandibular Joint)
The jaw joint is the most used joint in the entire body and the most delicate. The two bones of the TMJ are held together by a series of ligaments and muscles, any of which can be damaged, just like any other joint. Any or all of these ligaments and muscles may be painful and produce pain in the TMJ or at the very least, abnormal movement of the lower jaw. The wearing of a specially designed and custom fit splint may help reduce or alleviate this pain.
